Stinging Nettle

Stinging nettle prostate support

Stinging Nettle is one of the world’s most popular herbal remedies. Health practitioners have used this herb for centuries to fight off harmful organisms, redness, swelling, and even for regulating the immune system. The benefits of this powerful herb don’t end with these, however. One of the more popular benefits is that of supporting prostate health.

Stinging Nettle and Benign Prostate Hyperplasia

Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition that afflicts men as they grow older. Studies have proven that 50% of men between 51-60, and over 90% of men older than 80 suffer from this problem. The side effects of this condition include frequent urge to urinate, particularly at nighttime, and an increased potential of serious prostate issues.

Stinting Nettle has a positive impact on BPH. One recent study showed that 100 BPH patients taking stinging nettle effectively reduced the size of their prostates and along with it the symptoms they produce. This study only further substantiates previous studies that reported a reduced prostate size after consuming the appropriate dosage of the herb.  The incredibility of stinging needle is now recognized by mainstream physicians and often recommended to patients suffering from enlarged prostates and BPH.

How it Works

While the jury is still out on the mechanisms and how Stinging Nettle works for BPH, the success it has had in various studies show without a doubt that it does indeed work. A 2013 study found that stinging nettle possessed compounds that can inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. This enzyme works by converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is associated with enlarged prostates. By doing so, the prostate isn’t effected by the androgenizing that occurs when DHT is present.
